Principal's Message

Greetings Parents and Families of Proctor Elementary,

My name is Heather Ghereben and I’m extremely happy and honored to have been appointed as the next principal of Proctor Elementary School, and look forward to what this year has in store for us as we work together to make a difference in the lives of our students. I look forward to serving the community I Iive in, sharing the passion I have about education, and partnering with you to provide our students with a rigorous, engaging, and high-quality educational experience.

A bit about myself, I’ve lived in Castro Valley for more than 25 years, I’m a wife and mother of three teenagers who all attend CV schools, and will be celebrating my 20th wedding anniversary this October. Before becoming an administrator years ago, I’ve served in a variety of teaching and educational leadership roles over the past 20 years, primarily in the Hayward Unified School District. Some of the roles I have held include classroom teacher, literacy coach/staff developer, district GATE coordinator, and most recently a K-5 Assistant Principal at James Dougherty Elementary, in the Dublin Unified School District.

My mission as your new principal is to provide the leadership that will facilitate a safe and inclusive school environment that provides differentiated instruction to meet the needs of each student, focusing on the whole child. The educational programs must be academically challenging, engage each student by linking curriculum to previous knowledge and experience, but also be exciting to promote further exploration of new ideas. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administration all have an important role to encourage our children to become active learners. It is my sincere desire to provide expanded opportunities for our students to acquire the skills to become productive citizens in a vastly changing society, through a close and collegial partnership with you and our parent community.

I will be working closely with our teachers, classified staff, and school community to guarantee that all of our scholars are intellectually challenged and have access to the social and emotional supports critical to students during their time at Proctor.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve your families in this role! Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or ideas you would like to share.

Sincerely,

Heather Ghereben, Principal
